The Emergency Medicine Cerebral Resuscitation Laboratory occupies 2,200 square feet in a secure building on the campus of WSU School of Medicine. Laboratories are available for surgery, microscopy, electron microscopy, cell culture work, and protein and nucleic acid molecular biology and bench chemistry. The Research Laboratory has ten personal computers and six laser printers. Software includes Microsoft Office; SYSTAT, and Neurolucida/ Stereoinvestigator system NL-10, version 5.05.1. All computers are connected to the WSU local area network & have full service to the internet. Equipment for surgical experiments includes a Bausch & Lomb Stereozoom 7 microscope, microsurgical instruments, stereotaxic apparatus, ECG and arterial pressure monitor, infusion pumps, temperature monitor, and servo-controlled heating blanket. Basic equipment for Western blot studies include small and large format 1D and 2D vertical gel electrophoresis and electroblot transfer tanks, Bio-Rad 422 electro-eluter, horizontal gel units for DNA electrophoresis and appropriate power supplies. Additional major equipment includes: Perkin-Elmer 2400 PCR thermocycler, Eppendorf 5804R and 5415C centrifuges, Beckman Advanti J-E refrigerated centrifuge, Beckman LE-80K ultracentrifuge, BioRad FPLC system, Beckman LS6500 scintillation counter, Beckman DU530 UV-VIS spectrophotometer, -20 C and -80 C freezers, full dark room facilities, AO 100 microscopes, Zeiss inverted microscope, Leica DMLB fluorescence microscope, Neurolucida NL-10/Stereoinvestigator V5.05.1 software, Nikon digital camera with live video output, JEOL JEM-1010 transmission electron microscope, LKB Ultratome III, densitometer with BioImage Intelligent Quantifier software, and an automated x-ray film processor. For graphical gel analysis and photography we have a Bio Rad Versa Doc 4000 MP imaging system and supporting software. We have a Morris water maze tank, Sony DCRHC40 digital camcorder, and Bioserve V2.1 software for automated tracking and analysis. |
